How to play, record, share and review games in ChessCam.
Set up your board
Keep the phone steady with all four corners and every square visible. Use even lighting and avoid glare. Choose a game mode, open the camera and scan. Check the detected position before you start. If pieces are missing or misplaced, adjust the camera and scan again.
Open game setupRecord a game
Choose Over the board on Home to record a game between two players. Tap Players to add their names; they are saved with the game. Keep the camera in place while you play and check the on-screen board if a move is missed. Recorded moves are saved in History on this device.
Over the boardEnd a game with the kings
Checkmate is recorded by itself. To record any other result, lift both kings and put them on the four centre squares (d4, e4, d5, e5), then leave them still for about two seconds. Both on light squares: White wins. Both on dark squares: Black wins. One on each: draw. Against a bot or on Lichess this resigns for you: put both kings on squares of your opponent’s colour.
Over the boardPlay on Lichess
Choose Lichess in game setup and connect your Lichess account. You can use your physical board with the camera or play on your phone. With a physical board, move your opponent’s pieces too so both boards match.
Lichess setupPlay a bot or use your phone
Choose Play a bot on Home, pick an opponent and set the time and your color. Open camera uses your physical board. Play on this phone uses the on-screen board. Over the board also offers phone play for two people sharing a device.
Choose a botShare or watch a game
In Over the board setup, turn on live sharing and copy the watch link or code. On the other device, open the link or choose Watch live on Home and enter the code. Sharing needs an internet connection and sends the game position and moves, not camera video.
Watch liveReview and save your games
Open History and select a game to review its moves, analyze positions or export PGN. History is stored on this device; it does not sync between devices. Export games you want to keep before clearing browser data or removing the app.
